Lucky Giveaway Program Celebrates Its 12th Consecutive Year at 2018 Awards Banquet

SYRACUSE, NY – In what was started in 2007 has now grown to be a vital part of each year end awards banquet. The Lucky Giveaway Program for 2018 marked the 12^th consecutive year where manufacturers of sprint car racing rewarded teams that faithfully followed the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint Tour.

Race teams that follow 2/3rds of the full point events not only receive from the overall Lucas Oil overall championship point fund, but also receive awards from the Giveaway Program. To be part of the program, companies donate a product or certificate that is worth $500 or more and in 2018 the total distributed hit a record at just over $16,000.

Steve Poirier Crowned a Record Tying Eight-Time Lucas Oil ESS Champion. Over $90,000 was Handed out at the Annual Awards Gala.

SYRACUSE, NY – On Saturday night, December 1, a sold out Hambletonian Room at the luxurious Vernon Downs Casino and Hotel honored Quebec’s Steve Poirier as he captured the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) 35^th Anniversary Tour championship. The title was his eighth of his ESS career and now tied him with Mike Woodring for the most championships in the sprint car organizations history.

Poirier took home $9,398 from the $90,417 payout which included a record $60.125 in cash. A total of 24 different drivers took home from the point fund after a very successful 2018 season.

Not only did Poirier receive accolades from his overall Lucas Oil championship but he was also crowned the 1000 Islands RV Centre Canada Tour Champion, he won the Fondations 4 Saisons Quebec Series and the Danny Willmes Lap Leader title as well. Other point fund champions included Jason Barney for winning the NAPA Auto Parts US Tour, Danny Varin captured the Donath MotorWorx CNY Speedweek and E&V Energy point titles, Shawn Donath was the Cobra Coaches Dash Series champion with Billy VanInwegen the Insinger Performance Fuels Hard Charger.

The driver of the familiar #28FM won nine A-Main events during the year but the title fight between Poirier and Barney came right down to the final point event with Poirier edging the 2017 champion by a mere 25 points. For Barney, who took home $7,373 from the banquet, it was his fourth runner-up finish in the points which shows his tour consistency.

Many special awards filled the agenda for the night. The Outstanding New Comer Award went to VanInwegen who finished fifth in points in his first year on the Lucas Oil Tour. The Lane’s Yamaha Rookie of the Year was won by Josh Flint with the Most Improved Driver being Kelly Hebing. All three awards were very popular with the packed banquet room.

The annual Mach 1 Chassis Hard Luck Award was won by Paulie Colagiovanni. The fast running teenager had to cut his season short due to injury but told the crowd he’s fully healed and will be back in 2019. The Mechanic of the Year Award was won by Dave Donath, father of Shawn Donath. Dave’s wife Nancy accepted the award on his behalf.

The prestigious John Zentner Memorial Award was given to Paul Kinney. In his seven years on tour, his dedication goes without question as you can count on one hand the amount of events that he has missed. The Mal Lane Award of Excellence went to Charlie Caprara. Not only has he been a long-time supporter of ESS but also a huge fan of the winged machines.

The 2018 ESS Hall of Fame induction class was top sprint car wheelman John Birosh along with long time and respected tech inspector Mike Seiver. Their speeches were filled with emotion and excitement about the future for ESS.

Three well earned standing ovations made for a special night, Steve Poirier for his eighth title, Doug Emery who is leaving the ranks as a driver and owner after 30 years and also for well liked Tech Inspector Brian Ennis who will be retiring from his ESS duties.

The rules meeting the preceded the banquet saw very little change going into 2019 with one exception that the minimum weight required for each ESS event will be 1500 lbs. The schedule is very close to completion with a scheduled January 1^st release.

Lucas Oil ESS Championship to be Decided Saturday at Fonda! $4,000 to win, American/Canadian Clash at Airborne on Sunday

SYRACUSE, NY – It’s a big weekend for the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints! On Saturday at the Fonda Speedway, the 2018 champion will be crowned between Jason Barney and Steve Poirier. Then on Sunday, it’s the first ever $4,000 to win American/Canadian Sprint Car Clash.

Over that past month, both Barney and Poirier have been neck and neck for the 2018 Lucas Oil Championship. Coming into Saturday’s $2,000 to win, $300 to start Mach 1 Chassis A-Main there is just 17 points separating the two talented sprint car drivers for the crown. If Barney captures the crown, it will mark his second in a row and if Poirier takes the feat, it will tie him with Mike Woodring with his eighth title.

While the focus will be on the championship battle, many ESS stars and cars will be on hand for the event that pays tribute to Kramer Williamson. Expected to be in the field will be Matt Tanner, Coleman Gulick, Billy VanInwegen, Mike Mahaney, Paul Kinney, Shawn Donath, Danny Varin, Matt Billings, Jeff Cook, Chad Miller, Brett Wright, Kelly Hebing, Dave Axton, Cory Sparks, Josh Pieniazek, Josh Flint, Bobby Varin, Jeremiah Munson and many more.

Points will also be awarded to the NAPA Auto Parts US Tour which Barney has clinched and the E&V Energy I90/I81 Series which Danny Varin has already take that point series.

The next day, many of the winged warriors will head up to Plattsburgh, NY where the American/Canadian Clash is set to take place at the Airborne Park Speedway. It’s an event brought to you by ESS and the Sprint Cars of New England Series (SCONE).

The 25 lap A-Main will pay $4,000 to win with $2,000 for second, $1,200 for third and $300 to take the green. A special five lap dash will also be held pitting ESS vs. SCONE vs. Canada which pays $300 to win from the $1000 purse.

Drivers joining the many from Fonda will be Alain Bergeron, Dan Douville, Jordan Poirier, Will Hull, Dale Gosselin, Matt Hoyt, Yan Bilodeau, Clay Dow, Lacey Hanson, Adam Pierson, Sean Durand and others.

Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Returns to North of the Border at the Brockville Ontario Speedway

SYRACUSE, NY – It’s been since June that the 35^th Anniversary Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) has visited Canada but that will all change this Saturday night at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. It’s a $2,000 to win, $300 to start Mach 1 Chassis A-Main that is another stop on the 1000 Islands RV Centre Canada Tour.

Coming into the event, Steve Poirier leads the Canada Tour points over Coleman Gulick, Matt Billings, Jordan Poirier and Matt Tanner. In the overall point battle, it’s Jason Barney leading Poirier, Tanner and Gulick.

These stars will be joined by Mike Mahaney, Billy VanInwegen, Shawn Donath, Paul Kinney, Jeff Cook, Chad Miller, Dave Axton, Brett Wright, Kelly Hebing, Denny Peebles, Pete Richardson, Dale Gosselin, Yan Bilodeau, Tyler Rand, Paul Pekkonen, Chris Jones and more.

E3 Spark Plugs brings you the timed hot laps, Car Mate Trailers backs the heats with Herbison Tree Service sponsoring the Cobra Coaches Dash event and Lacaillade Masonry B-Main rounding out the qualifying leading up to the 25 lap A-Main.

The Bullring, the Brockville Ontario Speedway will be the site, this Saturday, August 18^th is the date. It’s the invasion of the Lucas Oil ESS gang and it will be excitement guaranteed!
