(Dundee, NY) Lucas Wolfe showed why he is one of the top Sprint Car drivers in the northeast as he claimed the combined Empire Super Sprint, Patriot Sprint Tour, United Racing Club 25 lap, 360 Sprint Car Feature on Friday, October 19 at the Outlaw Speedway. For the second generation pilot from Mechanicsburg, Pa it was the culmination of a great last several weeks as he has been victorious in 410 Sprint action in his home state as well as claiming the 2018 track title at the famed Williams Grove Speedway which is within eye sight of where he resides in the Keystone State.
Wolfe took full advantage of his outside pole position starting spot in the A Main event; however it was Shawn Donath jumping into the lead in the early going. A caution on lap one for the spinning machine of Coleman Gulick in turn 1 slowed the pace at the start of the event and for Gulick it was because of some tremendous heads up driving by half the field that he was able to avert any real contact and restarted at the rear of the field. On the restart Donath once again showed the way, but a red flag on lap 4 caused by the spinning machine of Darryl Ruggles and subsequent rollover of the Dan Kuhn machine brought the field to a stop. After the track was cleared and the cars realigned the race would then go green to checkered and provided some spectacular competition from front to back. Justin Barger who now resides in Cornelius, North Carolina took over the top spot on lap five, but Donath would retake the lead with a nifty pass in lap traffic on lap nine. On the very next lap Barger was once again able to get around the stingy Donath and lead until lap twelve when Wolfe would show his muscle and take over the top spot which he would never relinquish. However, the second half of the 25 lap affair would not come easy for Wolfe as he was constantly hounded by Barger as Donath’s machine began to fade allowing the likes of Jared Zimbardi and Chuck Hebing to move into the top five. “Juice” Zimbardi and “Cobra” Hebing put on a driving clinic as they pushed each other hard in an attempt to run down the high flying duo of Wolfe and Barger, but time ran out as Wolfe picked up the win by just a scant 2 seconds over Barger with Zimbardi, Hebing and Donath rounding the top five finishers. Outlaw Speedway Fall Nationals 360 Sprint winner, Davey Franek led the charge of the next five competitors across the line followed there by Dylan Westbrook, Derek Locke, Joe Trenca and Cameron Gulick who rallied nicely from his lap 1 spin to round out the top ten finishers. Congratulations to all competitors!
Earlier evening qualifying heat wins went to Wolfe, Hebing and Zimbardi with Jeff Cook picking up the win in the B-Main. The 5 lap Dash to set the top six for the feature was won by Shawn Donath.
Outlaw Speedway/360 Sprint Tid Bits.
Some 28 sprints took to the 4/10 of a mile clay oval as the event at Outlaw Speedway pretty much brought down the curtain on 360 Sprint Car racing in NY for the 2018 season.
Lucas Wolfe set fast time for the night in early evening time trials by stopping the clock at 12.583 seconds.
Jared Zimbardi continues his mastery of the Outlaw Speedway with yet another top five finish as “The Juice” really has the Yates County oval figured out. The duo of Zimbardi and Hebing are 2 of the most popular drivers that compete and Outlaw Speedway and they certainly did not disappoint the hearty fans that was on hand and braved the cold temperatures.
Opening night of the two day Dutch Hoag Triple 7’s Weekend drew no less than 175 cars representing 7 classes of competition
Albeit the fact the event was dubbed as an Open 360 Show featuring drivers from ESS, PST and URC it was the staff of the Lucas Empire Super Sprint organization that over saw the night of action.
