DANNY VARIN FIRST AT FULTON
The Empire Super Sprints kicked off their 2022 season opener at the Fulton Speedway last Friday night with Fonda, New York’s Danny Varin taking the win. Thirty-one sprint cars were entered in the Fulton pits as ESS celebrated their 39th Anniversary on this opening night. Varin and outside pole sitter Davie Franek led the 26 car field to the green flag to start the 25 lap event. A couple of early cautions including Jordan Poirier’s flip in turn two slowed down the race in the early going . Poirier was uninjured but unable to continue. Upon the restart, Varin won the drag race to turn one and slowly pulled away until a mid race caution pulled the field back together. At this time, two of the younger hot shoes in ESS were making their way up through the field. Kelly Hebing and Billy VanInwegen who both started deep in the pack were making tracks towards the front. The mid race restart saw Franek beat Varin to turn one but Varin, glued to the bottom, got the bite he needed and never looked back from that point, winning the A Main. Davie Franek was fast all night, claiming second, Matt Tanner was third followed by Ryan Turner and Jonathan Preston. Kelly Hebing ( from 18th ) and Billy VanInwegen ( from 20th ) finished 6th and 7th, with Joe Trenca, Jordan Thomas and Dylan Swiernik rounding out the top ten.
